General anesthesia for pediatric and special needs dental patients

You, your child or a loved one may have  been recommended to have your dentistry needs completed at the Cimarron Surgical Care Center. The surgery center enables us to complete the recommended dental care under a general anesthesia while you or your child is completely asleep.

 
There are numerous reasons we may have recommended you or your child be asleep when having dental work completed. The most common reason is the child is too young, or apprehensive to sit while the dental care is completed. Other reasons might include handicaps preventing the patient from sitting still for long or multiple appointments. Sometimes complicating medical conditions could lead to a recommendation for the surgery center.

A preoperative evaluation is completed prior to any General Anesthesia Dentistry.
Some of the major components of the evaluation include:

1. A thorough review of the patient's medical history.
2. A complete physical examination.
3. A review of systems. This means evaluating each of the patient's functional systems, such as the: cardiopulmonary, airway, hematologic, central nervous, renal, hepatic, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and metabolic systems.
4. Knowledge of the patients current medications and allergies.
5. Knowledge of the patient's previous anesthetic experiences.
6. Possible diagnostic lab tests and additional consultations.

Important Information! 

Please do not consume any food or drink after 12:00 a.m. the night before your procedure. If you do consume any food or drink, please notify the staff. Your procedure may need to be rescheduled.
Please wear no jewelry or make-up.
The parent or guardian must remain on the premises of Cimarron Healthcare Center during any surgical procedure of a minor.
A child safety Car Seat will be required for transporting any child four years and younger or under 40 lbs.

Pain Management is a non-surgical, outpatient alternative to alleviate your pain so that you can return to your everyday activities.

Understanding Pain: Pain usually serves as an alarm.  Pain tells you when your body has been injured, warns you that you may need medical attention, prevents you from further damaging the injured part and goes away when the injury has healed.  The pain system includes short term (acute) and long term (chronic) pain.  Depending on factors such as the way you tolerate pain, your physical condition and your emotional state, the same kind of pain can feel more or less intense at various times.  By understanding how pain works, you can learn to control chronic pain better.

Pain management is not for everyone. However, it is very helpful for many people who suffer chronic pain.  If you suffer from chronic pain you should consider seeing a pain management physician. Many patients who have suffered from persistent back or neck pain, headaches, shingles, leg or arm pain, pain related to diabetes and work related pain or pain related to an automobile accident, have achieved a level of pain relief that allows them to continue in their normal activity.
